THE FISHING SEASON
GOOD SPORT AT PALMEKSTOIT. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, October 2. The opening of the fishing 6eason was marked by numerous trials of the river bv local anglers, who met with remarkable), luck. It is said that owing to tho absence of floods during tho winter the ■lish remained in these lower portions of the river instead of travelling Uglier up. As a consequence tho water hereabouts teems .with fish of great size. Other local streams are also reported good. In contrast to fresh water conditions sea fish at Foxton are reported scarce.'
. Our Napier correspondent telegraphs that the fishing season has opened in Tlawko's Bay under most favourable circumstances, and that some marvellously good catches have already been reported. Tho rivers are said to bo better stocked than at tho opening of any previous season.
