THE CANADIAN COSTUME
' ' , Bif-LAW REVISED. / Tho Canadian costume was again discussed at Hie meeting of tlie City Council last night. Tho Reserves Committee reported that they had been seen .by Mr. J: P. Atkins, representing the Lyall Bay Surf • and Life-saving Club in connection with tho clauso on the by-law providing that no male person iii swimming costume who is over tho ago of ten years shall remain on any beach oxcopt for the.purposo of entering the water- or when leaving the water to reach any bathing shed or other place for tho purpose of dressing,
unless .such person shall bo clad in the swimming costume known as the Canadian costume." Mr. Atkins's club asked for the' words "Canadian costume" appearing at tho end of the clause to be amended by inserting provision for a costumo imported by his club known as tho woollen one-piece costume, which'was considered better for swimming and life-saving purposos. The committee recommended that beforo, {)io,by-law was confirmed, the following words be added to tho clause: "Or in a woollen lieck-to-kncc costumo provided the V-shaped trunk is worn underneath." ■Tho report was adopted.
