CIVIC AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE CITS' COUNCIL. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided at last night's meeting of the. City Council, and there were also present: Councillors R. Fletcher, J. E. Fitzgerald, T. C. A. Hislop, R. A. Wright, E. Trcgear, J. Fuller, jun., L. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, H. Buddie, G. Frost, J. Godber, W. H. P. Barber. The tender of Messrs. P. R. Baillie and Co. was accepted fpr the supply of Watt meters, and the tender of .the same firm for trolley wire. The Tramways Board of Management •was empowered to purchase materials required to carry out tramway duplications and track alterations already authorise;! ; and <to purchase a Burroughs' duplex semi-automatic. electric adding and calculating machine, at an estimated cost of £195. The Tramways Committee was empowered to settle tho Deed of Variation of the agreement ' between, tho Karon Borough Council arid the City Council with respect to the lighting of ICarori. An offer to supply book-marks for tho libraries was accepted for a period of twelve months, tho advertisements on same to bo approved by the To mi Clerk. It was resolved: "That the ratepayers of Baden Road, Kilbimie, who petitioned for the expenditure of £240 in repairing the road, shall be informed that on receipt of a, letter signed by all th'o owners of such road, agreeing to pay one-quarter the cost of the work, Uie council will put tho work in hand.''
