The sum of £400 had been paid over to his account in Germany in July, but he could not get a penny of it. 'He was born in Cologne-, ■in Germany, but had beeii a British subject for 25 years, and yet tbe-re had been dreadful stories told obout him. He had been accused of being a German spy, and it was said ho had been put on Somes Island, but' io was proud to say that the Government of New.', Zealand, instead of crushing him,, had upheld him. Judgment was entered for- £47 10s. 6d. and costs.
