MASTERTON NOTES
A distinct shock of earthquake was experienced here at 1.85 o'clock on Tuesday morning. The Mayor's War Belief Fund now stands at £1110. A building in Dixon Street took fire on Tuesday morning, but the flames wero extinguished by the fire brigade before much damage was done. ■ A finp performance was put up on the Masterton Golf .Club's links on Monday by the club's coach, Mr. W.' M'Ewan. Hp beat his own previous record of .72 for tho 18 holes, doing the round in 71. Mr. M'Ewan leaves on Wednesday to take part in tho New Zealand championship meeting. The , Supreme Court, which has been occupied for nine days with civil cases, will conclude its Masterton session on :Wc4 nes day- One or two cases had to be transferred to Wellington foi argument, in consequence of tho law lib-, rary here being so poorly furnished. Dr. 0. M. Sheldon is to be entertained at a public luncheon hero on 'Thursday. ~ He delivers an address in tils Town Hall in the evening. : Professor Brown, of Yale University, has consented ■ to'deliver-a lecture here on ''The Moon." The procoeds are to go to the War Relief Fund.
