A CASE IN POINT.
Again and again, in the House of Representatives, Sir Joseph Ward has declared that the actual rates at which war risk insurance is procurable wei> in foot much greater than the rates at which the Government said this cover could be got. The Government havo always said that, war risks' could bo had for: £2 or £2 2s. per cont., but Sir Joseph Waad has always maintained that this rate is unprocurable in New Zealand.
In ..the.House.last evening Mr. Nosworthy (Ashburton) was proceeding to. refer' , to' Sii Josoph Ward's past criticism on the question of war insurance risks, when Sir Joseph Ward objected to any reference to a past debate. Mr. Nosworthy said he would put the matter in a different way. . He would ask the Leader ,of the Opposition if it was not a fact that recently J. G. Ward and Co. effected an insurance at 375. Gd. per cent., on s.s Karamea. Sir Joseph.. Ward rose to a point of order. Could an'-hon: member refer to his private.business?.'he asked. He expressed doubts as to" the correctness of, Mr. Nosworthy's information, and wanted to know where ho had obtained it. Hβ mentioned' that he had instructed his lawyer only a, few days ago to proceed against a Reform candidate for a deliberate lie about him (Sir Joseph Ward) \yithin the last four days in a tramcar The Speaker ruled that though ojio member could not refer to another member's private business, he was quite in order iu referring to the operations -of. a company.
