MANY BOERS VOLUNTEER
Pretoria, September 28. At a meeting in support of General Botha's action, the Bishop of Pretoria (Dr. Furse) introduced a Belgian escort bringing German prisoners from the Congo. Their appearance was greetedwith wild enthusiasm. Tlie enthusiasm over General Botha's action is unabated; English and Dutch are mutually vying with each ■ other in assuring the Government of their ■unqualified support. Even in the Pietersberg and Outspansberg districts, where General Beyers (ex-Commander-in-Chief of the Union Army) is popular, hundreds of Boers havo volunteered. Only one or two meetings in Herzogite centres of Orangia supported General Beyers's attitude. FIGHT WITH THE GERMANS. (Rec. September 29, 8.30 p.m.) Cape Town, September 28. ■At Luderitz Bay, in German SouthWest Africa, the Rand Light Horse surprised some mounted Germans between Kolmanskop and Gradplatz, and drove them into the arms of the Imperial Light Horse. The latter lost three killed and four wounded, and the Germans lost live killed and two wounded. GENERAL BOTHA SPEAKS. (Rec-. September 30, 1.35 a.m.) Cape Town, September. 29.
