GERMANS HEMMED IN
(Rec. September 29, 10.55 p.m.) Toklo, September 28. It is now stated that the Japanuse casualties at Tsingtau were 3 killed and 12 wounded. The Japanese have'now hemmed the Germans within five miles of Tsingtau. At the battle on Sunday three German warships bombarded the Japanese right wing until threatened by Japanese aeroplanes. RETIRES' FROM BUSINESS. (Rec. September 30, 1.35 a.m.) Shanghai, September 29. The German gunboat Tsingtau was off too "Blind at Canton oh the out break of hostilities, and was entrusted to the chief engineer, as the majority of the crew had gone to Tsingtau. Ono 'morning she disappeared, dropped some guns and ammunition overboard, and returned to the Bund and was sold to a German firm for twenty-two pence. She is now registered as' a merchantman.
