MASTERTON NEWS.
At the annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Royal New Zealand Association of Veterans Mt. S. Kingdoh was elected vice-president and Mr. G. M. Wood secretary and treasurer. Mr. Capper was appointed deleKate to the annual conference, to be held in Wellington on October 20. •Very heavy rain fell throughput the district on Saturday and the pastures and crops have been revived. The supplies to the local dairy factories will also be increased. , A patriotic concert, organised by Messrs. N. G. Rayner and F. D. MarEhall, was held in tne Waingawa schoolroom on • Friday. evening. A similar gathering wtfe held at Upper Opaki. The annual report of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society shows that the net profit for the year amounted to £2094 7s. 6d., as against £204 15s. 6d. for the previous year. The percentage of profit showed a slight decrease on the previous year. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital on Saturday of Mr. J. M'Arley, at the age of forty-one years. The deceased leaves α-lmsband -and eix children. A novice match was fired by the Masterton Gun Club on Saturday and was won by a lad named C Mackersey. Tlie best cards handed in on the Mas-, terton golf links on Saturday in the J'ledal Competition were.by C. Perry in tiro A grade, and P. L. Hollings in the B grade.
