FARMERS AND THE WAR
GODLEY'S APPRECIA- '!-, TION. Major-General Sir Alexander Godley, commanding the New Zealand Foroes, has sent the following letter to Mr. J. , G.- Wilson, Dominion President of the New Zealand Farmers' Union:—"Before, leaving the Dominion I feel I must write to. you on behalf of the Expeditionary Force, to thank you in their name for all the support and help that your union have given in connection with the purchase of the horses and wagons, and in various other ways necessary for the departure of the Force. I would furthor like to add a line on my own behalf to say how grateful! am to your union for the way in which it has alwaya helped me in the starting of tho scheme of universal training. I feel very strongly that- the cause of universal training and the -Expeditionary Force owe a great deal to tho farmers of the Dominion.—(Signod) Alex. Godley." Mr. Wilson telegraphed the following reply:—"Many thanks for your kind appreciatory lottor. 'Any little help we were able to givo you was insignificant in comparison to your splondid work. Compulsory training is noiv an- accomplished faot. Good luck. Au rovoir."
