RELIEF FOR THE POOR

OF BRITAIN, IRELAND, AND BELGIUM APPEAL TO CITIZENS The Wellington Committee of "Tho Poor of Great Britain and Ireland and Belgium Relief Fund" has issued the following circular appeal to citizens: — A National Fund f6r Poor and _, Distressed, Objects: The object of this fund is to provide relief for those who aro in need of food and other necessaries as a result of the war, by sending Home voluntary contributions of meat, foodstuff, produce, and clothing, to be administered by the committee in England of the Prince' of Wales Fund. Part of the contributions are, at the discretion of the committee, to be madei available for the poor of Belgium. | "We appeal to the citizens of Wellington to contribute to this great and deserving fund. It is to bo New Zealand'? gift to the poor, and will be contributed to by New Zealanders from the North. Capo to tho Bluff. The war must inevitably cause dire want and cruel distress and; suffering in the Old Land, crowded as it is with refugees from the Continent, and in which winter is fast approaching. These circumstances make tho strongest appeal to our humanity and our patriotism. Wo are more happily circumstanced; we are outside the actual area of conflict; wo are a pro- , ducing country, and our summer is approaching. Our fortunate position, therefore, makes it a point of honour that we share to some extent the burden of tho Empire by contributing generously to this relief fund. Shall we fail to help the poor and- alleviato the distress of war? Remember, he who gives quickly gives twice. The fund will bo administered by the English Committee of the Prince of Wales' Fund, and this will guarantee efficient distribution' and the elimination of leakage and wasto. '

'How.to Help. "Citizens of, Wellington and surrounding districts, 'wo ask you to do your share. Contributions of money may be sent to the secretaries. Offers of live stock, produce, butter, eggs, etc., should be sent to the secretaries. Warm clothing, whether new or second-hand, should br sent to any of the/following depots (it is essential that presents of clothing should be sent in a clean and neat condition, and each parcel should have'n labol attached, showing the name of th giver and the contents, and should be clearly addressed) :— "Poor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Relief l'und." .
