During the fighting at Soissons on Saturday the Germans surprised 150 Highlanders who, with a Mixim gun, were guarding a bridge. The Germans in overpowering numbers crept nearer and killed all the Maxim's crow, when one of the Highlanders rushed out under p. hail of bullets and i carried the Maxim on his back across the bridge. He sat alone • pouring a fire' on the enemy, who broke, and fled to cover, leaving scores of dead. The Highlander was killed and thirty bullets were found in his body when piclied up.
