OUR MEN FOR THE FRONT

o SAILING DELAYED. BY ORDER OP THE IMPERIAL AUTHORITIES ' HORSES TO COME ASHORE AUCKLAND TRANSPORTS RECALLED His Excellency the Governor received advice- from the Imperial Government early yesterday morning that the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will not saii from the Dominion for some little time. The Governor is anxious, for obvious reasons, to take the people into his confidence oil this matter at the earliest possible moment, but would earnestly request them 110 c to make this a subject of comment, as the delay is solely caused by the exigencies of the Borneo,, when such extensive operations aro everywhere in progress, and applies as well to ether Expeditionary Forces of the Overseas Dominions. The Hon. J. Allen, Minister of Defence, informed a reporter last evening, that the horses would be brought a-shoro from the ships, and also 1 a sufficient number of. men to take charge of them, and that two camps would bo established in tho neighbourhood of -Wellington, one of them at 'J'rentham. The dismounted -men would not go into camp. They would sleep and mess on the ships, Ivul would come ashore probably every day for training and exercise. The Auckland transports, eaid Mr.' Allen, nad left Auckland prior to tho receipt of the instructions, but had been recalled. They would not come to Wellington, but the' same arrangement would bo followed there. : No Naoci for Anxiety. The Prime Minister made a brief statement: about, the postponement when asked to do so by a reporter. "There need be no uneasiness fcn the part of the public so far as our transports aro concerned," said Mr. Massoy. "Tho postponement of tho date of sailing has been, made under direct'instruc-tions-from the imperial authorities-, and I have reason to believe they are similar to the instructions which have been issued-to some of the other Dominions of the Empire. .The people of N(.w Zedland may bo quite; satisfied that a strong: escort has been arranged to accompany the transports." It is understood that the reason for tho. postponement had nothing to do with the safety or otherwise of our own seas, and that, there .is no reason to fear that they are any less safe than they liavo beea since the outbreak of the war..
