The local banks will close on Monday (Dominion Day), the first day of tho Ot'aki races. "Whitebait has made its appearance locally, and on Tuesday some good hauls were secured. Mrs. Ash ton, a local Native, died hero on Tuesday- night. A tangi is in progress. * . ■ ■ ' .The local racing track is heing , well patronised daily,.and besides some 30 odd. local horses there are a feu , from other parts. .
