UPPER HUTT FLOWER SHOW

The first Spring Show of the Upper Hutti Horticultural Society was held at the Upper Hutt yesterday, and was most successful, the exhibits being of a high order of merit. The Rev. Mr. Sykes, in the absence of Mr. T. M. AVilford, M.P., opened the show. F. Cooper Ltd.. of AYcllington, had sent in a line display of bulbs, and the exhibits of T. Waiigh were also very beautiful. Polyanthus (6 blooms), Mr. Balcoinbe Brown. Polyanthus (6 bunches distinct varieties), Miss A. Gibbons, 1; Mr. Routely, 2. Hyacinths, Mrs. H. A. Reid, 1; Mrs. J. Whiteman, 2. ' Anemones, Mrs. Puai'co. Polyanthus, Miss Roiitely, 1; Mr.' J. Browii, 2. Violete, Mrs. Pearce. Pnnsies, Mrs. Bendall. Twelve varieties ijansies, Mrs. J. Whiteman. The decorated tables were judged .by public ballot,' and Miss M. ffhitemari was the winner of the first prize. To Mt6. Pearco fell the honours of Hie show, as she was easily the best exhibitor; in 'many, of ; the classes, and Mr. 11. \V. Lepper, head gardener, was greatly to be*, congratulated/upon, the results, of his work. A guessing com : petition as' to the number, of blossoms in a bunch was'held-.• The Misses 'Whiteman and Gibbons (2) were in charge of. the flowed stall, and did excellent business. . A-pajr,of bantams was given,by Mrs.. Swanson to. bo sold,, and. as a result of;.the show and its various sideshows the Patriotic Fund should benefit, to a considerable extent.
