PROTECTION OF DUMB ANIMALS
The fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals -was nek\ last night. Mr. V. R. Meredith presided. The report of tho society's inspector (Captain Henry) detailed a number of cases of cruelty to animals which he had discovered and remedied. The question of reorganising the canvassing for funds for the society was discussed at length, and as an outcome a motion by Mr. R. H. Webb was carried to the effect that a sub-commit-tee consisting o{ tho president, and Messrs. Waston and Jameson, and Mrs. Christie be set up to go into the question of dividing the city into collecting areas. .Subscriptions were received and acknowledged as follow for the past fortnight:—Mrs. V. Riddiford, £2; A Friend, £1 Is.; Dr. R. A. Cameron and Mrs. Wise, ss. each; Mrs. Forrest, Mr. Seaton, Friend, and A.M., 2s. 6d. each; Friend, Is.; total, £4 2s.
