A. firo broke out in tho main grandstand on the Showground, on which there were a thousand people, who were quickly cleared. Before the firo brigade, which was fivo miles distant, , arrived tlie fire had spread to the Exhibition portion. There was great excitement among the largo crowd*. There was a poor water supply, and the fire was not suppressed until eighteen structures, including the Industrial Pavilion, and great quantities of valuable exhibits, besides tho grand* stand costing £7000, were destroyed.
