KARORI AFFAIRS
At last night's meeting of the Karori Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr. W. F.'Hildreth), Councillors B. G. H. Burn, W; Skegg, T. R. Boyes, J. W. Henderson, P. C. Jordan, ■ A. Hamilton, W. Bradnock, and L. P. Davies. A letter was received from the secretary of the company stationed at Fort Bnllance, thanking the council for a donation of magazines, - which wore greatly appreciated. In the same letter thanks was expressed: for anonymous' gifts of puddings and cakes from Karon residents. .' ' The Karori Tennis- Club wrote asking if the council would ;consider the question of remitting portion, of the rates on the club's property. It was pointed out that the Wellington City Council had granted certain reductions to all sports bodies. Councillor Boyes: There seems to be ' a tendency for sports bodies nowadays to want their sport for nothing,' but it they want sport at all they will have to pay for it. Other councillors: Hear, hear. On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to reply to the club to the effect that the council could not see its' way to grant any reduction in the rates. Tho Department of Agriculture adrtsed that the matter of tho spread of furze in the borough was receivmp. the attention of tho local fields inspector. Mr. M. Cable, Traffic Superintendent of the Wellington tramways. ww»lo stating that instructions had been issued for the discontinuance of the special cars on Saturday afternoons.
