UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD

A good number . of ratepayers were present at the opening of the Town Board meeting at Upper Hutt yesterday. The members present were; —' Messrs. Robertson, M'Curdy, Elliott, Grieg, Brown, Kitsen, and Webb. Commissioner Webb nominated Commissioner. P. Robertson for\the position of cfTairman, and Commissioner M'Curdy nominated Commissioner Kitsen, who .declined in favour of Mr. Robertson, who was elected. It was resolved to continue dealings with C.. T. Price regarding his petition to extend the road leading to his mill.. . Commissioner M'Curdy pointed out thatr'the ballot papers used for the loan proposals were invalid, owing to an "X" being used instead of striking out tne rejected proposal.—lt was resolved to apply to tho Minister of Internal Affairs, asking him to make the ballot papers used formal. Committees wero set up as follow: — Works and Building, Commissioners Robertson, M'Curdy, Grieg; Lighting, Commissioners Webb, Elliott, Brown; Finance. Commissioners Robertson, Kitsen, M'Curdy; Advertising, Commissioners Elliott, Kitsen, Grieg; By-laws, Commissioners ' Robertson, M'Curdy, Webb; Sanitary, Commissioners Elliott, M'Curdy, Brown; Fire Brigade, Commissioners. Robertson, M'Curdy. • , Commissioner Elliott moved that the meeting of the Town Board Commissioners be held every alternate Thursday, commencing from October 15, to give the Railway Commissioners a chance to attend all meetings. This was seconded by Commissioner M'Curdy and carried. The chairman, Commissioner Robertson, moved that a-resolution be sent to the chairman of the board at'Huntly, oxpressing tho board's sympathy with the relatives and friends of the men who lost their lives in the recent disaster. The motion was carried, all the commissioners standing.
