Soldier and Monojack . were double winners at the Avondale'Jockey Club's meeting. There will be racing in the South Island this week at Geraldine. Salute (by Soult—Lady Musket) has finished her turf career, and she is to be mated this season with Marble.Arch. B. Deeley, who rode Mullinger .to victory in the. Guineas at Avondale on Saturday, had ridden two previous winners of the same event. F. D. Jones leaves Featherston for 'Wanganui this morning with Reputation and Immersion. The former is engaged in the Guineas on Thursday, whilo Immersion will compete in the hack events. L. Wilson,' w'ho will have the mount on Reputation, is to • reach Wanganui' to-morrow. An Auckland exchange states that L. Brown the light-weight horseman, who steered King Soult home first in the Avondale Cup, has concluded his term of apprenticeship with D. Moraghan, and leaves for Sydney to-day to follow bis profession in Now South Wales. Bereb.au and Want aro to leave Trentham for Wanganui to-day. The former goes in chargo of H. Telford and Want in charge of J. W/Lowe. Carlita, who won the Guineas at Rosehill on Saturday, is the New Zea-land-bred filly by Charlemagne ll— Couronne. Sho races in the nomination of Messrs. P. Rogers and J. Rivers. Nominations for the Hawke's Bay races close on Wednesday next. The Australian Jockey Club's meeting opens at Bandwick on Saturday week, when the Derby and the Epsom Handicap will be decided. Wise Bird, who has boon exhibiting symptoms of unsoundness for some time past, galloped well at Ricoa.vton on Saturday morning. She galloped fivo furlongs in company with Bold Stroke, .and pulled up.quito sound. Tho Obligado filly, Rencontre, took charge of her pilot while doing walking exercise in the middle of the course at Riccarton on Saturday morning, and after galloping a round dislodged her rider, who, fortunatoly, escaped unhurt. The mare finally stopped of her own accord, no damage being done. Apart from a donation of £50 to tho War Fund, the Geraldine Racing Club intends giving half the profits of its forthcoming meeting to. the same cause. The wholo of tho wolits of the forthcoming meeting of tho Wanganui Jockoy Club are to bo devoted to tho Patriotic Fund. M. Hobbs will be' represented at the Gcraldiiio meeting by Corrie, Scotch Melody, and Peg, all" of whom are reported to bo in forward condition.
