BATTLE OP THE DRINA ;- Nlsh, September 18. Details of the battle on the Drina, news of which was cabled on September 15 ; show, that ninety thousand Austnans on the night of September 7 crossed the Drina, where . the Save makes a deep angle-. The Servians were reinforced on September 8, and drove the Austrians into the angle, where they were exposed to a, terrific bombardment and repeated Servian charges, The Austrians, under cover of the night, reached tlie_ left bank of the river, thus avoiding a catastrophe, though they were obliged to leave their September. 9 the Servians attacked from a new position. The Austrians did not wait for the assault, but fled in disorder. As they only had a few boats, the! whole of their lines were annihilated. The Austrians lost 13,000 men: the Servians' losses were relatively small.
