ONSLOW AFFAIRS
The ordinary meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was neld last night. The Mayor (Mr. C. C. Orump) presided, and there were also present: Councillors B. Lynneberg, ; J. C. Gardner, L. A. Browne, C. Monro, C. Bamden, E. C. Anderson, and A. H. Hoby. ' On the recommendation of the Finance Committee it was decided to accept the offer of the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society of| £850 on loan, at call, at ii per cant, interest. • Councillor Gardner moved "That the report submitted by the consulting engineer on August 29 : (regarding tho water supply) be adopted, subject to the deletion of the 4-inch main from the bridge to the Kaiwarra Hotel, and the connection of the .existing. services to the proposed new pipes. The work is estimated to cost £450." —Tho motion was carried. The matter of tho want of water pressure at.tho forts at Kaiwarra was loft with the engineer to deal with. A report upon the Kaiwarra wator supply for fire purposes was adopted, subject to fresh estimates and other possible alterations. It was decided to write a strong letter to tho inspector, complaining of the spread of gorso generally, and asking him to. have examples made of those responsible. In reference to. a letter from Mr. Bardsley, Ngaio. it was decided to inform him that the council has no intention of initiating a movement for tho planting of private properties in the borough. Councillor Hoby moved: "That tho Standing Committee and council meet-, ings start at an earlier hour in future, say, 7 or 7.30 p.m."—After some discussion, the hour of future meetings was fixed at 7 o'clock.
