TWO DISTRICTS OR ONE?
~ — 8 HOSPITAL CONTROL. Yesterday the Wellington ■ Hospital and Charitable Aid Board considered the question of severing the ,'ioro■whenua County from the Wellington Hospital District,. and, by a majority vote, decided that such a course was not. desirable. The question came before the board in the following report: —"The Finance, Policy, and Property Committee, and the Hospital Committee, after fully considering, the questions involved, cannot see its way to recommend the board to agree to the severance of the Horowhenua County from tho Wellington Hospital District." The chairman (the Rev. W. A. Ezans) explained that the report had been brought forward after full consideration had been givon to the question. Tho main objection to the proposal was that, in view of tho. fact that the board was going in for a strong campaign against tuberculosis, it would be unwise to drop the sanatorium at Oiaki from its control. Mr. B. R. Gardener (Levin) protested against tho report as being contrary to the policy of tho board outlined in a previous resolution, and a'lengthy discussion followed. Mr. F. T. Moore moved as an amendment that severance be agreed to onconditions that, the Otaki Sanatorium should be controlled from the Wellington district. Mr. G. Nash seconded the amendment, which, however, was defeated by 9 votes to 6. Mr. H. Freeman moved a further amendment that the clause be referred back, and this also was defeated, the voting 'being tho samo as on 'the previous amendment. The 'report of the committee was then adopted by 10 votes to 5. Mr. Moore finally gave notice motion to rescind tho board's resolution.
