BRITISH SUBMARINE IN ACTION
GERMAN CRUISER STALKED STORY OF UNDE&WATER WARFARE (Rec. September 18, 0.50 a.m.) London, September 17. Early on Sunday morning two or three British' submarines were stalking the Hela. Tli<b E,9 ; coming to the surface, found the Hela within range; She immediately dived and launched two''torpedoes and a muffled sound told that one of the torpedoes'had found its billet. The E. 9 remained below, and when she oame to the surface the Hela had a heavy list, and othor non-fighting German vessels were assisting her. Tlie submarines again dived, and when they rose tho Hela had disappeared. The Germans did not detect the submarine E. 9, which escaped without a shot being fired.
