THE JOSEPH CRAIG
FINDING OF THE MARINE COURT. (By Telograjh—Press Association.) Auckland, September 16. The Court of Inquiry into the wreck of the barque Joseph Craig found that the wreck was caused by the breaking of a tow line owing to the barque being struck by a severe squall, and an error of judgment on the part of the master in attempting to wear his vessel instead of dropping anchor immediately tho line parted. The Court was of v tho opinion that the captain of the Joseph Craig committed an error of judgment, in attempting to port as tho squall was about to strike the vessel. In ordering that oost's be paid by the master of the barque, the Court expressed the opinion that the master of the tug should not be called upon to pay. He returned and risked his vessel after the- line parted. Tlio Court had. 110 recommendation to make as to towlinos, that being left to th<j ■ authorities,-'.whose duty'it, was to see that everything in the .nature of equipmont was well up-to-date.
