(From Our Own Correspondent*.) The result of tho first race Hutt Valley Homing' Pigeon Society, flown from Wftnganui,. for Mr. J. Cotton's trophy, is as follows:—Mr. 0. Gougb's Gold Baud, 1, time 2hr. 20min. 55sec, velocity, 1199.24yd5. per minute, 1: Mr. R. Bootli's Captain, time, 3hr. 3(smin. 65sec., velocity 826.28yd5. per mimvfco, 2; Mr. G. Whitehead's Mararagh, time, 3hr. 60min., velocity 800 yds. per minute, 3. An interesting address on Mission work was: delivered by the Rev. W. R. Poolo (from tlio Fiji Mission Service) at the Petono Methodist Church last evening. There was a good attendance, the Rev. J. J. Lewis presiding. Tlio Rotoroa Maori Choir performed at tho Lower Hutt Town Hall last evening, and at the Pctone Lyceum on Monday, beforo verv large, audiences. Tho Hutt Valley Labour Day Car-r nival Committee intends to hold its annual gathering, on October 26, although it was suggested that the date b'e postponed on account of tho European crisis. At a meeting held in Petone last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding, good progress was reported, and it was decided'to dovote tho carnival proceedings to tho local distress fund. , Tho fifth annual report of the Petono Cricket Club states that the senior team played nine matches, won seven, and lost two, scoring 18 championship points, and boing bracketed with Wellington North as winners for the season 1913-14. Tlio junior team played seven matches, won three, lost four, scoring nine points. The third elevon played 15 games, won 11, lost five, scoring 29 points, and occupied tho position of runners-up. Mr. A. Dalgleish is congratulated on tho manner in which ho coached this team. Arrangements have been made for the Borough Council to tnko over tlio preparation of tho wickets this season, which will allow players moro time for practice. Messrs. S. Brice and E.
