A staff of the physical culture branch of the Educatioai- Department is at present making an examination 'of the schools in the Wairarapa, and discussing matters affecting physical culture with the teachers. ' . . The Masterton Gun Club held a meeting on Saturday afternoon; for a sweepstake and £5 added. Nineteen members competed. R. Buick and J. Harvey :tied for first-place. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club will ; open its season on October 1 with a race from Ormondville. The New Zealand Romney Sheepbreeders' Association is offering ' the Wheeler Memorial Shield for competition; at tho next Masterton show. A number of practical miners of Masterton wired the Prime Minister on Saturday, offering their services for rescue'work at the Huiitly mine. The Prime Minister replied: "Am informed from Himtly that everything which it is' possible to. do is being done by men on the spot.
