ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
(By Telegraph.—Prose Association.) *— — DROWNED IN A PUBLIC BATH., (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Duneclin, September 14. At about 9 o'clock to-night while a number of young 'lads were enjoying themselves in the Corporation Baths ens of their number felt what ho took to be a body on t'ho bottom. He iminediatoly informed Mr. Olds, the caretaker, who at onco rang the bell, ordering everyone in tlis bath to their clothes. He made a thorough inspectipiij but could not find, any clothes without an owner, and he resumed teaching some young lads, when one of those who were in tho bath when the ala!rm was first given informed him that there was a suit of clothes in a locker, which apparently had not been claimed. Mr. Qlds thereupon dived for the purpose of searching for the missing person, but could find no trace owing to discolouration , of the water. He then let out some of the water, and ultimately rescued the body of a young lellowi.in the deepest part. The caretaker rendered first aid, and then called in Dr. Gordon Macdonald. and also .notjh'ed the police. Tiie young fellow apparently /was about 17 years of age, but nad 'hot been identified at a late hour.'' ' . A FARMER KILLED. v Palliatua, September 14. A fatal accident occurred at Ngaturi to-day, Mr. J. T. Priest, an old, well-, known settlor, left homo about nino o'clock, driving a drill, with two, horses attached. The horses bolted. Mr. Priest remained on tho drill for some distance across the paddock, when ho fell from the maohino. When he was picked up life was extinct, deceased's skull being . fractured. Mr. Priest either ..received-, a kick from the horses or was injured by tho machine. Death' was evidently instantaneous. Mr. Priest leaves a widow and grown-up family. LABOURER COMMITS SUICIDE. Hamilton, September 14.. An inquest was held at Waimai, near Ngaruawahia, on Saturday concerning the death of Edward Viuce, a Raglan County Council labourer. Tho evidence showed tbat Vinco committed suicide by cutting hjs throat with a razor. A verdict of suicide whilst temporarily insane was returned. ■ WOMAN HAiYGS HERSELF. Dunedin, September 14. • Word has been received by tho local police that Mrs. Margaret Black, aged 48, wife of Mr.. Neill Black, farmer, Maungatua, committed suicide yesterday morning by hanging herself with a cord from a bedroom door. Deceased had been in bad health lately, and had becomo very depressed. An inquest will bo held at Outram to-morrow. A man named Leonard M'Gee, a bushfaller, who had been employed at the Upper Hutt, was admitted to tho Hospital at 2.30 this morning, suffering from a broken thigh and broken log. Ho was brought in from the Hutt in Dr.. Koinp's motor-car. '
