The Tuhoe and Urewora Country Natives offer the Government a block of sixteen hundred acres of land at Ruatoku to be sold by the Government at the highest market price, the proceeds to be devoted to the Defence Fund.

Hastings, September 14. By the sale of violets in Hastings on Saturday £67 was added to the Belgian Belief Fund, and another £37 was collected in shillings charged for guesses at the weight of the champion collie dog Mosgiel Wonder. Mr. Jack Parker gave the dog to a competitor guessing the correct weight. The Belgian Fund in Hastings ha.s now reached a total of £1935, and substantial cheques are still coming in. RECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS. The Patriotic Sports Committee met last evening, Mr; Skerrett presiding. The secretary read out a preliminary statement of receipts and payments, •which - showed:—Receipts: Carnival, £279 15s. 3d. (some tickets ..still outstanding) ; Maori concerts, £120 ' 25.; Harry Lauder's matinee, £239 3s. 3d.;. Mr. Sykes's guessing competition, £7 45.; auctions, £50; lectures, £16 55.; total, £712 9s. 6d. The expenses, amounted to about £70. Arrangements were completed for the "treasure hunt'' to take place at Lyall Bay next Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Bayfield's offer to organise a ball at the Town Hall at any early date in aid of the fund was accepted wit*h thanks. The secretary was instructed to insert an advertisement thanking all those firms which had congifts, or _ had done gratuitous work, and the ladies who had assisted. "THE DOMINION" LISTS.
