FARES TO ENGLAND REDUCED
BACK TO NORMAL. Since the steamship companies engaged in the direct trade between New Zealand and England announced some three weeks ago that an increase of 25 per cent, in tho passenger faros had been decided upon, no steamer has left these shores : direct for the Old Country, and nono is to leave until tho New Zealand Shipping Company's • steamer Eemuera sails on September 24. _ In the meantime the shipping companies have readjusted their ideas as to the increase in the faros by quietly, announcing to anyone interested that the old soale of fares has been adopted. Those who had paid the 25' per oent. extra have had that amount refunded, • evidencing tho welcome faot that it is • not considered necessary to raise the ' scale as yet.
