HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
.The Hutt Borough Council met last evening, there' being ' present: The Mayor (Mr.'H. Baldwin), and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Brasseld, Cleiidon, Parsonage,, Purdy, Ball, and liobbs. Tho manager of the Town Hall wroto, complaining of the gas pressure the Town Hall.—The letter was received. • .-■'.- . The Town Clerk of Petone advised that the Booster plant had been installed, and expressed the hope that as soon as the new machinery was in proper working order that the cause of complaints re gas pressure would be obviated. . Mr. J. Mitchell complained, that drain-pipes on -Tirolianga Road conducted. water into- . bis. creek, whence he drew his domestic water supply, and requested that tho drain pipes be removed.' It was resolved-to reply/ stating that the council could take no action in the matter. Councillor Purdy drew attention to the fact that horses wore led behind vehicles through the borough in such a way as to obstruct traffic, and asked if there was any by-law to deal with tho. matter.—Tho Mayor stated that the council could not prevent the practico, but the matter might be considered at a- meeting to be hold- in connection with the motor-bus by-laws. , ■'■-:■. v \ ,: The engineer's report stated that 116 chains of footpath-preparing had been completed in various streets, at a total cost , of £100 Is. 5d., or 17s. 3d. per chain. After a trial with the grader lent by the Hutt County Council for nine days, the engineer.. was of the opinion that the purchase of one by the council would be a good investment. Two lamps had been erected in Park Avenue, according to instructions, and three permits had been issued under the drainage and sanitary by-laws, making the total number of connections to date 972. The expenditure for the three weeks ending September 5 was as follows:—District fund account) £267 3s. lOa.; gas account, £18 17s. 2d. ;.gas Joan, £2 6s. 9d.; total, £288 7s: 9d. Tho report was adopted, and it was.de-1 ciaed that a sura be placed on the estimates for the purchase of a road-grader, and that the offer of Messrs.
