SENSATIONAL TUSSLE WITH BURGLAR
. A MASKED DESPERADO. (By Telegraph.—Press 'Association.) Wanganul, September 13. A sensational fight witli a masked burglar took place at a suburban residence early, this morning. Oil returning from their pork butchers' shop at midnight, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose were surprised to find thoir'houso ransacked, but thinking that it might liav.e been the work of children, they retired to bed.
Later, they lieard movements, and about four o'clock Mr. Ambrose got up and looked out of the bedroom window. Ho saw a man approach, and go up tho steps loading to the main door. Grasping his revolver, Mr. Ambrose went out and met the intruder, who refused to bail up. When Mr. Ambrose pulled' the trigger thero was no report, the revolver being unloaded. The burglar, then closed, and there'was a rough-and-tumble fight, which lasted for some time. Mrs. Ambrose came to her husband's assistance, and both revived. severe gashes in the forehead, while their nightclothes were drenched with blood.
■ The burglar escaped, leaving his soft hat and mask behind. The polico were at once communicated with. It is evident that after ransacking 'the house and finding nothing, the burglar, knowing that Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose brought money home with tliem, returned, and again ransacked the house ( after locking certain doors in order that he might be undisturbed. It was after that that he went round to the front of the houso and was there observed;
