Last Saturday tlie banks on tho West Coast, states tho Greymouth correspondent of tho "Lyttlton Times," decided to reduce the price of gold by one shilling per ounce. The matter was mentioned at Tuesday's meeting of the Wcstland County Council, when Councillor Murdoch moved: "That the attention of the Government be drawn to tho action of the banking institutions in reducing by one shilling por ounco the price of gold purchased from the miners, and that a request be made to the Government to purchase all gold produced in the Dominion at the full rato hitherto prevailing." ,The mover said ho considered that - the miners should now be getting more for their gold than hitherto. .He thought the council should protect the miners. He had beau informed that the reason' for tho decrease was because of war risks in shipping. The banks should not ship the gold if such was tho case. He was of opinion that tho prico should be increased rather tils# decreased. Tho resolution was carried. •
