WELCOME TO COMMISSIONER RICHARDS. There were lar|e gatherings at the Vivian Street Citadel yesterday at the welcome meetings to Commissioner Richards on his return from the International Congress in London. At each meeting the Commissioner, wlio was accompanied by Mrs. Richards, and'supported by the Chief Secretary (Liout.Colonel Powley) and Mais. Powley, the headquarters, training college, and general staffs, received an enthusiastio greeting. The Chief Secretary, in welcoming the Commissioner, expressed the feelings of all Salvationists in New Zealand and all the friends of the Anny in saying how pleased they wero to welcome back their leader. During his absence in London the officers, soldiers, bandsmen, and locals had worked most devotedly and had right manful»» k£j>t the flag flying. He could not'speak too highly of what they had done, and now that the Commissioner pas back, with renewed inspiration, tne whole Army would go forward with inoreased determination to extend the Kingdom of (jod. Commissioner l Richards, who was received with applause, said that it was a matter of deep congratulation, not only to himself, but to the whole army to know how well the Chief Secretary had kept the flag flying during the past 6ix months, and how cheerfully and devotedly he, the officers, soldiers, bandsmen, and locals had discharged their many and onerous duties. He paid a special tribute to the wives of those officers who had accompanied him to London. They had kept their various corps in a high state of efficiency. Hβ (tho Commissioner) and his colleagues would renew their assaults upon the hosts of heE with undiniimshed .ardour. In the afternoon ,the Commissioner gave an interesting address on tlie London Congress, and declare" that thero would be a mighty spiritual harvest as a direct result of the gatherings. In. the evening, to a crowded meeting, tne Commissioner Bpoke with liis aocustomed vigour.
