CIVIC AFFAIRS

_ The fortnightly meeting of the Wellington City Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided. It was decided that the public sewer should be extended along Molbourne Road, Island Bay, for a distance of about 360' feet, at an estimated cost of £71. The Finance Committee reported that they had received a plan from the city engineer showing'his proposals for the construction of public- conveniences for Wellington .South, at Hall Street, and also conveniences for ladies at Mason's Steps, off Lambto'n Qauy. Tho committee recommended the council to authorise the immediate commencciuont of both works. —The rccminendation was adopted. It was decided that the Vogeltown Municipal Ratepayers' Association should' be informed, in reply to their requests, as follows:—Re-grading MillsRoad: That 'tho. policy of tho council was to undertake the construction of the new road to Vogeltown, first. Widening Hutohison Road: That the' construction of a suitable track from Dransfield Street to Hall Street track from the Hutchison Road, as recommended by the city engineer, would-be undertaken as the first instalment im-' mediately, and the remainder of the work would be undertaken next year, ana if not -then would be continued during the following year.
