SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.
The large institute was taxed to its utmost last night, the occasion being a farewell evening to the crews of tho troopships in port. The Misses Van Staveren wore responsible for the musical arrangements, the result being a first-class concert. Mr. 3. Moore, Miseioner, occupied the chair. The programme, which was of a patriotic nature, was contributed to by tho following;— Mrs. Easson, Misses Van Stavoren, Easson, M'lntosh, R. Van Staveren, Messrs. Van Staveren, Mazengsrb, 0. Mazengarb, Wilson (H.M. N.Z.T. No. 7), Slaters (H.M.N.Z.T. No. 7) Roy (H.M.N.Z.T. No. 12), and Mcnzie (H.M.N.Z.T. No. 7). Several patriotic choruses. were sung by the men, Mr. C. Sign playing the accompaniments. In the competitions Mr. Roy (H.M.N.Z.T. No. 12) and Mr. Oldham (H.M.'N.Z.T. No. 11) were the winners. The performers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the 1 conclusion of the concert, and light refreshments were dispensed. The Missioner announced that the loet distribution of "ditty bagj" to ihe crews of the outgoing troopships would be made on Friday evening next at the inetitute, whore another concert will be held. In tendoTinp: his thanks to the donors of the "ditty hags" for the , troopship CTBws,-the Missioner said he would ho glad of any more gifts such as "ditty bag?," books, etc., which will be distributed on- Friday evening.
