Edgar John Blackburn Clough, a half, caste Maori, who pleaded graTty in the Lower Court to obtaining £16 by means of false pretences, came up for sentence in the Supreme Court this morning. Acoused fought in the South African. War, left New Zealand as a private, and returned as a lieutenant. ' •.'■■■'
For cashing a valueless cheque in Wellington some time ago he had . reoeived four months' imprisonment, and early in this year he got into trouble at Chnstthnroh wet. atnke funds and was fined £5.> Mr. Justico Sim sentenced accused to six months' imprisonment.
