' At the weekly meeting of the Cercle Francais' on Friday evening, Mr. Chas. Wilson delivered a lecture on tho French abldier-poet, Paul Deronlede. The sublet originally ' chosen was Alexandre •Diimas, pore, but Mr. .'Wilson' considered that France's most patriotic poet would be a much more appropriate subject at the present. juncture, and' the hearty applause- which punctuated the lecture was ©videilcfl thab ft? audience was of the same opinion. . 'Lm speaker pave a brief account of thfc poet,s life,and followed with a review of his works, illustrating these by some well-choSen readings from "Chants, du -Soldat.. These, charming at- any--, .time, _■were special!? - po under , present- circumstances? Some reminiscences, given by the wayi of. a sojourn m- the, garrison town of Lille were also of'much interest. A very'hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Wilson for his" delightful discourse. A pianoforte, solo was. given by Miss Flanagan. The meeting was concluded by the singing of the Marseillaise" and "God Save, the .King. Mr A. S. Mehtoath occupied the chair.
