Skerrett presided at a meeting of the Recreation and Entertainment Sub-Committee of the Patriotic Fund Committee, held last evening. It was decided to accept with thanks the offers of iMiss Estelle Beere and Mr. Alexander Watson (elocutionist) to give entertainments in -aid of the fund. The offer of- the City Couucil staff to arrange a. ball; to be given in the Town liall, in aid of the fund, was also accepted with thanks. The matter of open-air carnivals or sports gathering's was ; referred '.to - a sub-committee, consisting, of Messrs. C. G. Wilson, A. Marryatt, and J, F, Atkins, to arrange a definite programino of such events. It ivas proposed to' organise a'grand, treasure hunt (at Lyall Bay), the arrangements to be mado by Mr. Bert Rojle. : , Tho chairman undertook to obtain. the -permission of the -Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon, -H; D. Bell) to allow an attraction to take place'. Mr. : W." Smith' .suggested that' subscriptions might be obtained for providing the men who are going a,way with something in the nature-of punch-ball's,' boxing: gloves, and such material, which would be of direct benefit to the men on the long sea voyage.
