■ The House of Eepresentalivos met at 2.30 p.m. The Mortgages Amendment Bill was received from the Legislative Council. Tho Hon. A.- L. Hcrdman moved that [ consideration of the amend»enta mnde by
the Council in the Bill be deferred, saying that he would move later to iusort a ekiuso in the Bill by Governor's Message. Consideration was deferred accordingly. The atuendinonts inado by the Council in the Regulation of Trade, and Commerce Hill were agreed to. The Industrial Arbitration Act Amendment Bill (Mr.' P. C. \V"t!bb).was introduced and read a first time. The lit. Hon. W. P. MASSEY read the message (already published) from Lord Kitchener to the New Zealand people, and moved that it be • recorded in the journals.of the House. Ho read, also, a list of offers of assistance received (recorded elsewhere). SIR JOSEPH WARD (Leader of the Opposition) said ho was sure the iuessago of Lord Kitchener would bo much appreciated by the people of this country, and that they would be well satisfied in the knowledge that suoh a distinguished soldier was at the head of affairs in England,' directing the British forces. He also expressed great gratification at the many generous contributions to the funds. . The Rt. Hon. W. F. MASSEY said he had omitted to mention that there were hundreds of women in different parts of New _ Zealand working .very hard, but working 'gladly and willingly for long hours,, making shirts, underclothing, socks, and caps for the New ZealandeTS going to the front. He was quite sure every member of Parliament appreciated what was being, done by the women of this country. Mr.' Massey said that he did not propose to ask the House to take anv ordinary business that day. They had hoped to havo had one'Bill ready that afternoon, but it was not quite prepared. Probably two Bills would be ready on Tuesday, and would have to be'gone on with.-. ■ ; The House rose at 3 p.m.- till' 2.30 p.m. to-day."
