THE .GOVERNMENT INTENTIONS. The member for Wellington East (Dr. Newruaa) aslced the Primo Minister in the HouirQ of Representatives yesterday whether the Government were prepared to tabs any steps to relieve distress-in the event of any widespread unemployment occurring. Mr. Massay said ho would just like to say that the Government would do everything it possibly could to prevent distress through unemployment. Publio works would be kept going, and as time went on the Government would probably do -more than they were doing now if permitted. Ministers considered it was the duty of the Government to prevent hardship in every way possible, ana although he could not now go into details, this was tho lino, the Government intended to take.
