ENTHUSIASTIC MEETINGS. Organ) pn sided, and the following committee wa elected:—Mrs, Shortt (chairwoman), Mre Hqwden (secretary and treasurer), am Mesdames Chittey, Avery, Zohrab, Solo IT. Downes, P. St. J. Keenau, Kolleston, and Miss Ashworth. "* In response to Her Excellency the Coun tess of Liverpool's' appeal, a successfu meeting of ladies, convened by the Mayor ess of Petone (Mrs. A. M'Ewan), wa: held last evening, the hall being crowded to the doors. The Mayor (Mr. J. W M'Ewan) presided. A. general committei was appointed, of which Mesdame, M'lCenzie and Barniroat weje elected sec retary - and treasurer, respectively. Foi the purposes.of procuring sewing materia and funds, a canvassing committee} wa< set ap, and the town- was divided into sec tions. two ladies being allotted to eacl division. A sewing committee was als appointed. Mr. W. Foster (headmastei Petone District High School) offered (sub ject to the consent of the School Corn mittee) to provide a room and severa sewing machines for usb in this connection. The meeting terminated with th< sliiging of "God Save the King.'' Members of the Women's J>o<rrto for the Bible in Schools havft undertaken th( malting of 350 articles to be sent to the Mayoress. • (By Telesraph—Presß Association.) Palmerston N., August 10. A very large gathering of ladies assembled in the Council Chambers this evening at the invitation of the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. Nash, for. the purpose of malting arrangements to provide comforts for those going to the front. Hundreds of ladies volunteered to • supply . shirts, under-shirts, pyjamas, etc., and a strong committee was set up to carry put the arrangements. Gifts of money were also received. \
