Wedding at St. Mark's. ■On Wednesday afternoon, St. Mart's Uiureh was .the scene of a quiet but Pretty wedding, when Miss Lilian Beatrice Hell, second daughter of tho lato Mr. H. P. Bell, of EMdiford Street, was mari, & % Walter Daines, second eon of Mr.. W. F. Daines, of . Blenheim. The bndo wore a gown of ivory satin, with tunio of shadow lace, and veil With orange blossom and pearl azaleas and maidenhair fern. She 1 w'asjtfven «way by hor brother, Mr. C. B. Bell, while Miss D, Abernethy, carrying a pretty bouquet of Eink and yellow abutilous, and Miss A. •aines, with a posio of violets, aoted as bridesmaids. The bridegroom was attend'W by Mr. A. F. Bauduiet as best man. After the ceremony, oonductdd by the Rev. Askew, a reception was hold at 85 Constable Street. • The bridegroom's present to the bride was a pair of diamond earrings, while the chief bridesmaid received a pair of earrings of turqoiso.-And pearls, a gold braclet being given, to'Mies Daines. The'bridegroom was the recepiont of a ohequo from the firm of Thompson Bros., Ltd., with whom he has been employed for,about U years. His fellow-' employees presented him with a case of .cutlery, ...-.'• Private information to hand from London (says the Dunedin "Star") announces the marriage of Miss Alice Pollard, daughter of Mr. Tom Pollard (who has 'supervised recent productions for the Dunedin Amateur Operatio Society), to Mr. Douglas Stewart, of Highfield, Epsom. One thousand'shirts alone are to be given out for sewing, and thero' will be various other garments distributed as well. All over Wellington, women, many of thomyery busy women, are hard at work making all sorts of necessary garments for the, expeditionary force. Nurses in a large hospital liko that at Newtown 'have not too much time that they can call their own, but in response to the appeal of the matron to assist in helping to provide the equipment of the men who are leaving New Zealand in answer to the call that has been mado'for their services, every nurse who i was off .duty gave up her few short hours of leisure oh Saturday and sat to work-to the. making of shirts and hold-alls, tidies, and socks, blinding their eyes to tho. call of tho sunshine outside, the blue sky, and the many outside' interests which aro looked- forward to with keenness by such busy women. There was real self-sacrifice involved in their ready response to the request that was mad©' to. them on Saturday. Her. Excellency the Countess of liverpool is supplying the troops with "hoiisewifes" (satchels containing buttons, tape, cotton, needles, pins, etc.), and underclothing.
