Bidding on -young stock was not very brisk, but we quitted the bulk of our entry at top values. Quotations:—Small mixed weaners, 245.; yearling. heifers, 355., .iSs. 6d., to £2; yearling Jersey croas heifers, £2 10a.; yearling steers, £2, £2 10s., to £2-17s. 6d.j 2-year empty heifers, £3 Is. to £3' 65.; 'store cows, £3 7e. 6d. to £3 17s. 6d:; for-' ward cows, ■ £4; 7s. to £4 15s.j -springing heifers, £5, £5 10s., £5 '15a., to £6 10s.; 24 dairy, cows realised prices from £3 to £8 ss. . •' ■ Messrs.. Dalgety and Co., Ltd.. report :— At our Wauganui sale on July 22 we had a first-class' yarding,of: sheep and cattle. The demand all round was keen, only;.onc pen going, out unsold. On July 23 we held a clearing sale on'account of Mr. N. D. ltoberston. Sheep sold well, but the demand for dairy , stock was easier. The yarding at our Waverley sale on July •24 was principally dairy hcifere. The demand for these was limited, the bull: of. the yarding going out unsold.' There ia apparently a firmer feeling in ( the wheat market, in consequence of the threatened war on the Continent, which, if it eventuates, will seriously affect tlio position, .particularly of the next harvest in European countries, besides creating an immediate demand. Otherwise, 'there is nothing, to..relievo -the recent stagnant' state of the local market. Only a small hand-to-mouth business i.? going on. Oats or n oatsheaf chaff and potatoes, are still i dull of sale, and the price is nominally -£2 at country stations. Presiding at the general meeting of Virol Limited, M(. B. .8. Straus (chairman) said it was satisfactory to note that, in the three years ending March 31 last, both .the turnover and profits of the company had more than doubled,' artd that business with hospitals and consumption sanatoria contimiod-to expand. Foreign and colonial trade had-'showh a marked development. The gross profits amounted to £76,260, as against £61,956 for the previous year. The opinion -held of Virol in-medical circles has "been: "still further raised by the remarkable series of investigations into the action of the white blood'cells'in destroying disease- germs. These investigations proved that the administration of Virol greatly -increased tho germ-combatting power of the blood cells. The scheme for the"-establishment of the Virol Refcarcli . Laboratories, which was . approved last year, had been carried.into effect. Premises were secured in Bedford Square, and
equipped on the most up-to-date lines, with the result that the Vivl Laboratories were now amongst tho linest in the Kingdom. Their piimai-y objects were to furnish the medical protes6ion with all possible scientific data in regard to the bio-ehomical physiological action of Tirol in the various conditions of health and disease,'and to investigate all scientific questions in connection with the business of a food company. They had decided to extend the,services of the• Laboratories to the medical profession for the investigation 'of clinical questions, and although the Laboratories were'only opened in March last, several ■-public health authorities, hospitals, and sanatoria- all over the country had availed themselves-of tho exceptional facilities, thus placed at their disposal, v The report and accounts were unanimously adopted.
