THE LIQUOR QUESTION
THIRD PARTY MEETS TO-NIGHT. A meeting of considerable public importance will be held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall 'at 8 p.m.; this evening, when what is termed the. Third Party to the liquor question will take definite steps to form a Moderate League. The Acting Committee have prepared a comprehensive constitution, and in putting this before the, meeting will .deal, with a number of matters -.af-. fecting the moderate public, inch ling the thorough inspection of all liquors and licensed premises, the establishment of a standard basis of liquors, the tied-', house question, and alternative systems of control. Judging by. the interest aroused a large attendance is assured. The doors will be open at 7.30 p.m., and • ladies, for- whomiseats will be reserved, are specially invited. The objeote as published include the' safeguarding of the interests of the general public, in ■■ all matters relating to the. licensing laws; resistance-of the of . National Prohibition; the proper conduct of licensed houses; and the build- < ing up of an organisation which will protect'the interests of .the-moderate ■ section of the community as against the extremists who belong to the ■Prohibition "Party ortheliquortrado.
