A SCHOOLGIRL'S DEBT
FATHER REPUDIATES DENTIST'S BILL. (By IWserapo.—Special CorreipondentJ Palmerston North, July 28. An -interesting point affecting a schoolgirl's liability for a debt was argued before the Magistrate, Mr. ''J. W. Poyntbh, S.M., to-day. It appeared that V. E. Harman, a Palmerston dentist, had repaired the- teeth . of''the daughter of 'Mr. Alfred Taine, of Auckland, who is attending'the''--local'Board-ing School. The account for £9 2s. was disputed' by her father.on- the ground that the work, was. unauthorised. ■ His solicitor, Mr. Cooper, argued-that the amount was irrecoverable, because nochild could pledge its parentis authority . He quoted Lord Halsbury to. show parent,is not liable for the accounts of his child, even for necessaries, unless he had sanctioned them.. The plaintiff's solicitor, Mr. Moore,', replied that, thero must be implied authority. He would be sorry to see Boarding School children held to 'have no implied, authority to-havG.their teett and general health attended to. ..,", Judgment, was reserved. , ~. .
