A number of British ami American scientists and one representative'■ of' Germany arrived iu Auckland by the Makura, eh route to Australia to attend tile annual conference of, the British Association for the advancement of science-. This party represents: a Small, proportion of the distiinmished men and women "who are travelling to Arustralia to attend the conference. The great, majority.'are proceeding to Australia from Europe direct. Among the arrivals was Professor J. J. Findlav, M.A.. Ph.D., Professor of Education in tlic University of Manchester _ sineo 1903, and a well-known authority on education'. Professor Findlay will remain in/New Zealand for a few days for rbc purpose of delivering lectures. His first lecture was given jii Auckland to-nisht, and his second will bo given in, Wellington on Thursday evening. He continues his. .(burner bv steamer, leaving Wellington on Friday.. '
