; FOR,.HEAT AND.POWER. The reductions in the price of electrical energy for power and heat decided on at the last meeting of the City Council are of considerable moment to the' general public. The- proportion of the community who are using electric power for heating, in.the>.,use of radiators, electric irons, toasters, kettles, andcooking stqveß js steadily increasing, an(T every reduction made by the tibn brings this ideal power into more general use. That is what the local authorities are aiming at. . Now that wo have a second Parsons' turbine, the generating plant is equal to a considerable expansion. At present consumers are paying 4d. per uiiit for electrical heat, with a'2s per cent, discount (equal to Id. per unit) on the first 20, and thereafter 2Jd.per unit (or a discount of l-Jd. per unit). -. "... What they are now being .offered is energy for heating purposes at 2d. per unit, with a 25 per cent, discount,if tho account'is paid .within fourteen days 1 from the meter-reading. This means: thdt all who pay' up promptly will get electrical heat at \\L por_ unit—4he cheapest rate evert offered in Wellington.
'•'■ At present the chargo or energy for power is <4d. per unit, with a scalo of discounts that' varies from Id. per unit for any quantity between one and 500 units; of 2}d. per unit for any quantity over 2501 units.; From next month the price for powar is to be reduced to 3d. per unit, with Jd'. per unit discount on from i to-300 units; Id. per unit from 301 to 1000 units; and lid. per unit front 1001 units This scale of charges applies to electrical energy used for" driving machinery,,, but not for lighting directly or indirectly.
