TRIAL MATCH AND SELECTORS PREPARING FOR ENGLISH INVADERS * All hockey matches were postponed on Saturday, with the exception of the ladies' trial match—A versus B—which was played at Karori. While- the- uncertain weather led to the postponement of all other fixtures it was thought that the playing of the ladies' game was a 'matter of urgency in view of the local ladies' ■ match against the visiting English ladies' hockey team next Saturday. The ground on which the trial game was played at Karori was in fair condition considering tho heavy rain that fell earlier in the day. Naturally the A team won all. the way through the game. Their opponents, however, were in nowise disgraced. Early in the game tho A team was attacking, but it was some timo before Miss Dobblyn secured the first goal. The vanguard trioMisses Dobbyn, Pickering and M'Donnell— soon had tho ball again hovering round tho B goal and the former added another score. The B team made ■im. attempt at retaliation which attempt, however, only, led to Miss Dobbyn securing still another goal for her side.,- Miss M'Donnell was instrumental in getting tho next goal for the A "team and she centred to Miss Carrick who made no mistake Bv halftime the A team had secured still another goal, per medium of Miss.Dobbyn. The B team made a more determined stand in the second half of the game and managed to limit, their opponents' total to only two more points, tor which Misses Pickering and Carrick • were responsible. .',"■! ■ Messrs.
