Brookes and Wilding (Australasia) easily defeated Schwengers and Powell (Canadian) in the singles in straight sets. The Canadians were completely outclassed. Brookes' match was played in a temperature of one hundred. A cooling shower fell prior to Wilding's match. The courts were heavily tarpaulined, but this did not affect Wilding's servico and returns, which were marvellous, nonplussing Powefi. Lack of confidence hastened Schwengcr's defeat, although Brookes was master at all stages.
